Sailing allows handicapped children and adults to discover environments that were often previously outside of their
experience. Along with other partners, notably ‘Handi-the-Cat’, Just for Smiles is putting in place a number of adapted catamarans. Already established on lakes Leman [Geneva] and Neuchâtel, the project is being extended across the whole of Switzerland in order to give those sailing the maximum of security and comfort whilst enjoying the experience.
Catamarans provide stable platforms for embarking handicapped people. Those available to Just for Smiles are fitted with various
specialised equipments that facilitate getting the clients on board and making them comfortable there.
One hour’s sailing costs CHF.75.-; a day’s sailing costs CHF.375.-. (This includes training and equipment, but not the investment in time and money necessary for developing the network of adapted catamarans required to meet the demand of Institutions wanting their residents to go sailing).
